Alvaro Bautista's performance in 2022 earned him the Superbike world title at the controls of a Ducati Panigale V4 R. The spaniard is now thinking of returning, as a wildcard, to MotoGP.
The rider had already revealed this desire for weeks, claiming that it would be a good prize for Ducati Corse general manager Gigi Dall'Igna to give him. Now he explained that Aruba, which sponsors him, can play a role in making it a reality, as he told Mundo Deportivo:
- I know that my sponsor Aruba is entitled to several wildcard contracts. Michele Pirro has already done one. I'm curious to test the Ducati Desmosedici, as from the outside it looks like a lot of fun. I would like to at least do a test if I feel good and want to...why not?
In fact Pirro has ridden in three wildcards in MotoGP this one under the colors of Aruba.it. There are several signs in favor of Bautista: the fact that he was champion in the WSBK with Ducati in a team whose main sponsor is precisely Aruba.it, the fact that he has already ridden previous versions of the Desmosedici and also the schedule, since WSBK finishes first than MotoGP and Bautista could, in theory, test the Desmosedici in a wildcard at the final Grand Prix of the year in Valencia.
